Jnr Pope: Anambra Police Recover Three More Bodies of Boat Accident Victims

The Marine Police of Anambra State Command says it has recovered the bodies of the three remaining victims of the unfortunate boat accident involving a movie cast on Wednesday.

Recall that the unfortunate boat, which was one of the two that conveyed the crew to a film location in Anambra West LGA of Anambra  State, was returning to Asaba, where it took off, from when the accident happened.

Six actors and an actress were successfully rescued from the water immediately.

Two others who were unconscious were also pulled out with the aid of fishermen and conveyed to the Delta  State Command Marine Police Jetty where other members of the crew who traveled in the first boat were waiting and handed over to the President of the Actors Guild for conveyance to the Hospital while the rescue team went back in search of three others who were still missing then.
Popular Nollywood actor, John Paul Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope, was also among those rescued but later died in a hospital.

However, in a statement today, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, Tochukwu Ikenga said two of the bodies were recovered on Thursday. At the same time, the last was washed in by the tide this morning.

“All the bodies have been deposited in the hospital mortuary in Asaba while the President of the Guild of Actors and Actresses has been notified of the recovery.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye has urged all water commuters to be safety conscious and avoid behavior that may jeopardize their safety and that of others while on transit on water.

“He promised an expedited investigation into the sad accident that claimed the lives of five actors.

“He also commended the Command’s  Marine Unit and its Commander for dedication to duty,” Ikenga noted.
