Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has inaugurated a N100 million water project in response to media reports highlighting the severe water scarcity faced by residents of Gwari village in Dutse Local Government Area.
The project commissioning was held with great fanfare, as Governor Namadi emphasized the significance of providing accessible and clean drinking water as part of his administration’s 12-point agenda.
During the ceremony, Governor Namadi expressed his commitment to collaborating with various partners and utilizing necessary resources to achieve the goal of improved water supply.
He stated, “In line with our water supply objectives, we are proud to inaugurate this project aimed at resolving decades of water scarcity in Gwari Village.”
The project includes a solar-powered motorized borehole and an extensive pipeline network that stretches over two kilometers across the community.
This initiative is designed to provide a sustainable and reliable water source for the residents, who have long struggled with water shortages.
Governor Namadi noted the positive impact of the project on the community, saying, “The joy and relief evident on the faces of the over 4,000 residents during the project’s commissioning confirm that we are making progress.”
In addition to the water project, Governor Namadi also commissioned newly rehabilitated offices for the Water Board, Small Town Water Supply Board, and Urban and Rural Water Supply Board.
These improvements are expected to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of water supply management in the state.
To further support the monitoring and maintenance of water pipelines, the governor distributed 36 motorcycles.
This initiative aims to ensure the proper functioning and prompt repair of the water infrastructure across the state.
Addressing civil servants during the event, Governor Namadi urged them to avoid laxity and absenteeism.
He assured them of his government’s commitment to the timely payment of entitlements and welfare, emphasizing that the principles of reward and punishment would be strictly observed to maintain discipline and accountability.
The Emir of Dutse, His Highness Muhammad Hameen Nuhu Sanusi, also attended the ceremony and commended the state government for its efforts in alleviating water scarcity in Gwari Village.
He noted that this is the first major water facility constructed for the community, marking a significant milestone in improving the residents’ quality of life.
