The Director General of the Jigawa State Due Process and Projects Monitoring Bureau, Dr. Muhammad Kasim, has issued a stern warning to contractors, stating that any contractor found guilty of submitting fake financial documents or engaging in substandard work on state projects will be blacklisted.
Dr. Kasim made this declaration during the opening of bids for the awarding of contracts aimed at renovating and constructing 46 roads across Jigawa State, spanning a total distance of more than 738.9 kilometers, on Tuesday.
The construction is a major component of the state’s development agenda, and the value of the projects is significant.
Speaking further, Dr. Kasim revealed that in the past, there had been growing concerns about the legitimacy of some of the financial documents presented by contractors.
The documents in question include Performance Bank Guarantees, Advance Payment Guarantees, and other forms of contractual financial security.
Given these concerns, the Bureau has now put in place stringent measures to verify and authenticate all documents submitted by companies bidding for government contracts.
He emphasized the importance of contractors presenting genuine documents obtained from reliable and reputable financial institutions, noting that any failure to do so would result in immediate blacklisting by the state.
The Director General also reiterated the need for contractors to meet all contractual obligations, including adhering to the agreed timelines for project completion.
“We are encouraging contractors to always submit authentic financial documents from trusted institutions. Failure to do so will lead to the blacklisting of the offending company,” Dr. Kasim stated. “We also expect contractors to abide by every aspect of the contractual agreements during the execution of the work, including ensuring the timely completion of projects awarded by the Jigawa State government.”
In addition to these expectations, Dr. Kasim assured contractors that the state government would safeguard their rights, including ensuring that payments and other government obligations are met promptly once a contract has been awarded.
Speaking at the same event, the Permanent Secretary of the Jigawa State Ministry of Works and Transport, Qs Ahmad Isa, highlighted the commitment of Governor Umar Namadi’s administration to address the infrastructure deficit in the state.
He emphasized that improving infrastructure, particularly roads, would facilitate the movement of goods and services, thus driving economic and social development.
According to Qs Ahmad Isa, the contract bid process was initiated for the renovation and reconstruction of 42 major roads.
The cumulative length of these roads exceeds 738.9 kilometers, and the projects are estimated to cost more than N222.7 billion.
The focus on road development is seen as a key part of the government’s strategy to enhance connectivity across the state, ensuring that communities can access markets, healthcare, education, and other essential services more efficiently.
The administration is keen to bridge the infrastructure gap to stimulate growth and improve the quality of life for residents.
The bidding process marks an important step in realizing these goals, and both the Due Process and Projects Monitoring Bureau and the Ministry of Works and Transport are working to ensure that the projects are executed to the highest standards.
