Lawmaker representing Surulere I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, says the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, will ”cool down when he is ready,” amid reports of a strained relationship between both politicians.
In an interview with BBC Pidgin, Elliot said he had already tendered an apology and stressed that the matter should not be escalated beyond its current level.
The Nollywood veteran-turned-lawmaker also emphasized that Nigeria operates a democratic system, not a military regime, noting that disagreements are normal in politics.
When asked about his relationship with Gbajabiamila, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Elliot described him as his superior and insisted their bond remains strong.
According to him, he has always been loyal to Gbajabiamila, whom he likened to a father figure, adding that any misunderstanding between them is bound to be resolved.
“I’ve said sorry to Gbajabiamila, and he’ll cool down when he’s ready. I’m not the one to tell him when to be calm. We are in a democracy and not a military regime,” he said.
“There’s no way in this life that a father and a son have a disagreement, and they won’t settle their differences. People should not blow the little misunderstanding out of proportion,” Elliot added.
