It’s Dead on Arrival— Wike Dismisses Makinde’s 2027 Presidential Bid

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, describing it as “dead on arrival” following his reported alignment with the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Makinde, on Thursday in Ibadan, declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the APM after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with him and the APM.

However, Wike said the development would not translate into electoral success, insisting that the move was politically untenable.

“What you have is Seyi Makinde joining APM to actualise his presidential ambition, which is already dead on arrival,” Wike told journalists on Thursday during an inspection of road projects in the Gomani-Yangoje area of Kwali Area Council, Abuja.

“It’s unfortunate. We know that has been his game plan, and we would say he cannot fly the flag of the PDP.”
The FCT Minister also dismissed suggestions of a broader PDP–APM alliance, noting that Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, had not referenced any such arrangement, describing the claim as unfounded.

Wike further reacted to remarks attributed to Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, saying there was no cause for concern over his political status.

“Sorry for what? Why are you saying problem when nobody has told you he has a problem? The man has told you he still remains APC. So what is the problem now?” He queried.
