ISWAP Terrorists attack Borno police station, gun down officers

In Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State, a tragic incident unfolded as suspected members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) attacked a police station, resulting in the loss of at least four police officers.

The assailants reportedly targeted the station in Gajiram town within Nganzai LGA, launching a violent assault on the officers on duty.

Security sources have revealed that the ISWAP fighters not only engaged in a deadly confrontation but also managed to seize a significant cache of ammunition during their attack.

The police station itself suffered damage, with parts of the facility set partially ablaze by the invaders.

The gravity of the situation was highlighted by a local vigilante source who spoke of the ensuing chaos in the town.

“There was confusion in our town last night. The ISWAP fighters attacked the police station in Gajiram. They outnumbered and overpowered the policemen on duty,” the source stated.

The aftermath of the attack revealed the devastating toll, with four police officers confirmed dead, and some personnel still unaccounted for.

In response to the assault, a top security source informed that military reinforcement was promptly mobilized upon receiving the report.

However, the ISWAP attackers had managed to flee the scene before the arrival of the reinforcements, underscoring the challenges faced by the security forces in combating such incidents effectively.

As of the time of this report, the police authorities had not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.

This unfortunate event adds to the series of attacks that Borno State has endured from insurgents, highlighting the persistent security challenges faced by the region.
