Israel intercepts ship of weapons bound for Gaza

The Israel Defence Forces said it stopped an Iranian shipment of advanced weapons headed for terrorist organizations operating in Gaza.

The IDF said the Israel navy intercepted a Panamanian flagged civilian cargo ship and entered the vessel.

According to IDF spokesman Lt Col Peter Lener, the weapons found were identified as Syrian manufactured surface-to-surface rockets.

It is believed that Iran is trying to hide its role in the weapons’ shipment to terrorist groups, given the fact that Syrian weapons were found and not Iranian weapons.

Lt Col Lener said, “The IDF will continue to operate against Iranian attempts to arm regional terrorist organisations, who intend to continuously ignite our borders”.

“We continue to employ all the necessary means in order to prevent the armament of terrorist organizations and will combat the Iranian smuggling attempts that threaten the security and sovereignty of the state of Israel”, he added.
