Isaac Fayose Slams Remi Tinubu Over Appeal to Nigerian Music Stars on Charity

—

Social commentator and businessman Isaac Fayose has criticized First Lady Remi Tinubu for her appeal to top Nigerian music stars to channel more of their wealth into charitable causes rather than spending heavily on luxury cars.

The News Chronicle reports that Fayose questioned why entertainers such as Davido, Burna Boy and Asake were being urged to shoulder the responsibility of supporting struggling Nigerians while elected officials control public resources.

Reacting to the First Lady’s comments, Fayose said, “When governors are with their money, why can’t APC state governors set aside N500 million every month to support poor people in their various states?”

He also accused political leaders of misplaced priorities, adding, “Why instruct them to buy jeeps for APC women leaders when people are poor in their various states?”

Fayose further alleged that the ruling party should focus on addressing economic hardship before asking private citizens to do more.

In another strongly worded remark, he said, “Your party spent N20 billion buying votes, and now you are advising our artists to use their hard-earned money on charity to support the poor people your party made poor.”

His comments have sparked fresh debate on the role of government and wealthy individuals in tackling poverty across Nigeria.
