Iran Issues Alternative Routes Through Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued new guidance for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, warning of potential sea mine risks in the main shipping channel. Ships are now urged to follow designated alternative entry and exit routes to ensure safe passage.

The announcement comes as part of a temporary two-week ceasefire with the United States, agreed just ahead of a deadline set by former President Donald Trump for possible military action.

The News Chronicle observed that since early March, Iran had effectively restricted access to the strategic waterway, disrupting global shipping and sending energy prices soaring.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a vital artery for international trade, with roughly 20% of the world’s oil supply passing through it, making any disruption or rerouting a major concern for global markets.
