Investigate Delta killings thoroughly — Reps instruct military

Constitutionalism: Another look at Confab ’94 Report

The House of Representatives, has ordered the Armed Forces of Nigeria, which is the country’s military, to carefully investigate the situation that caused the recent cruel and terrible killing of soldiers in a community in Delta state.

The House also told the armed forces to take action and work together with the right authorities to catch all the people responsible for this crime and anyone who helped them.

They gave this order when they discussed a very urgent national issue brought up by Honorable Babajimi Benson, who leads the Committee on Defence.

Benson talked about how sad it was that seventeen soldiers were killed in Delta state on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

Among the soldiers who died were Lt. Col. A.H. Ali, who was leading the 181 Amphibious Battalion of the Nigerian Army, Major S.D Shafa, Major D.E Obi, Captain U. Zakari, and thirteen other soldiers.

These soldiers were trying to help settle a fight between two communities called Okuama and Okoloba in Ughelli South and Bomadi LGAs of Delta State when they were attacked and killed.

Benson said, “These soldiers were only trying to help their country by answering a call for help, but they were attacked and killed instead.”

The House wants to make sure that the armed forces do everything they can to find out what happened and punish those responsible.

They’ve given a group called the Committees on Defence the job of working closely with the armed forces to make sure they follow through with this and report back to the House within four weeks.
