Internet Disconnected In Senegal Amid Political Crisis

—

Dakar, Senegal’s capital experienced a disruption in mobile internet services on Monday, following a political crisis on the aftermath of President Macky Sall’s announcement of a postponement for this month’s election. Users reported inability to access mobile data since the morning.
Senegal’s parliament is set to discuss a proposal to delay the presidential poll for up to six months. Opposition calls for a demonstration outside the parliament followed violent protests in Dakar, where tear gas was deployed, and an opposition figure was arrested. The Sonatel workers’ union had anticipated a possible blackout, expressing disapproval of the government’s internet restrictions.
Notably, mobile data was previously suspended last June during heightened tensions.
