Insulting Tinubu Won't Salvage Naira - Former Tormentor

Renowned socio-political commentator Reno Omokri has delivered a scathing rebuke against those he perceives as detractors, asserting that berating political figures like President Bola Tinubu will not ameliorate the economic plight of Nigeria, nor will it bolster the nation’s depreciating currency.

In a fervent social media post, Omokri vehemently criticized the trend of creating videos and skits to mock the Nigerian Naira, emphasizing that such actions are futile in fostering appreciation for the national currency. Additionally, he decried negative comparisons between Tinubu and other political candidates, contending that such discourse does little to alleviate the pervasive hardships experienced by Nigerians.

Dispelling the notion that protests serve as a viable solution to economic woes, Omokri invoked the case of Venezuela, where despite over 200 protests, the local currency remains one of the world’s poorest performers. He asserted that protests are not only ineffective but also disruptive to the economy, exacerbating the existing hardships faced by citizens.

Emphasizing a call for self-reliance and support for indigenous products, Omokri advocated for a grassroots movement dubbed #GrowNairaBuyNaija. He urged Nigerians to patronize local brands and services, citing examples such as driving Innoson or Nord vehicles, utilizing Glo for communication, and sourcing construction materials from Dangote and BUA.

Furthermore, Omokri encouraged the consumption of Nigerian-made goods across various sectors, including food, entertainment, and fashion. He recommended dining at local eateries, attending domestic sporting events, and enjoying Nigerian cinema and music. Additionally, he urged citizens to embrace traditional attire such as aso oke, agbada, babanriga, or isi agu as a symbol of cultural pride.

In a pointed admonition to individuals who prioritize foreign products over locally made alternatives, Omokri cautioned against hypocrisy. He urged them to abstain from criticizing his advocacy for indigenous goods while concurrently supporting foreign brands, suggesting that their consumption habits contribute to Nigeria’s economic challenges.
