Instagram to Prioritize Short-Form Content, Shuts Down IGTV

—

Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, has reaffirmed the platform’s commitment to short-form content, announcing that Instagram will continue to focus on Reels rather than long-form videos.
In a recent update, Mosseri explained that long-form videos do not align with Instagram’s core identity, which is centered around connecting people with their friends.
This comes after Instagram’s decision to shut down IGTV, a platform dedicated to long-form videos.
“Long-form videos tend to result in less interaction with friends and lower likelihood of users sharing content,” Mosseri said.
“Our primary goals are connecting people with friends and helping them explore interests, mainly through short-form video.”
While Instagram is doubling down on short-form content, its competitor TikTok is taking a different approach by investing more in longer videos.
Despite this divergence, Instagram continues to innovate with new features.
The platform is currently experimenting with AI-powered features, including chatbots for creators and a new live stream feature for users’ ‘Close friends’ list.
Mosseri’s statement highlights Instagram’s strategy to enhance user engagement by sticking to its strengths in short-form content and facilitating more personal connections through these mediums.
