Insecurity: Senate Begins Constitutional Process for State Police

—

Amid mounting insecurity and fresh outrage over the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State, the Senate has commenced the constitutional process for the creation of state police, a long-debated reform aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.

Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, said the upper chamber is ready to expedite the necessary legislative processes to support President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to tackle insecurity and improve law enforcement across the country.

The renewed push for state police comes as calls grow louder for a decentralized policing system capable of responding swiftly to security threats at the grassroots level
