The Niger State Government has slammed a 6 pm to 6 am curfew on commercial motorcycle (Okada) and tricycle (Keke NAPEP) operators in Minna, the state capital, in a bid to curb growing insecurity.
Governor Mohammed Umar Bago announced the measure at a stakeholders’ meeting, citing loss of lives due to rising violence.
“Only those seeking urgent medical attention are exempt,” he said, stressing that protecting lives remains a top priority.
While issuing a stern warning, Bago stressed that anyone caught with weapons will be treated as an armed robber.
He also ordered security forces to arrest individuals with dreadlocks, shave them, and impose fines as a deterrent.
“Any attempt to harass security operatives will be seen as an attempt to intimidate the government. It’s 100 per cent enforcement—fire for fire. Enough is enough,” he declared.
Parents were urged to rein in their children, as violators of the order will face strict legal consequences.
