An inmate at the Potiskum Correctional Centre in Yobe State, Blessing Sunday, has given birth to a baby boy after she was allegedly impregnated by a correctional officer.
The delivery took place on Sunday at the Potiskum Specialist Hospital, where both mother and child are reported to be in good condition.
Earlier reports revealed that Assistant Superintendent Sani Saleh-Bodejo allegedly sexually assaulted and impregnated the inmate, with claims that some female colleagues supported the misconduct. He was also accused of assaulting another inmate identified as Salma.
Following the allegations, the Nigerian Correctional Service suspended Saleh-Bodejo and other officers involved for “unprofessional conduct with inmates.” The suspension was approved by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, after a preliminary investigation.
The service reiterated its zero tolerance stance on misconduct and assured that any officer found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary and legal action
