The Yobe State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Muhammad Lawan Gana, recently talked about how changes like stopping fuel subsidies, rising prices due to inflation, and increasing costs of medicines affected healthcare in the state.
He shared these thoughts during a meeting in Damaturu, the state capital, where stakeholders were discussing the operational guidelines of the Yobe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (YSCHMA).
Dr. Gana mentioned that the state government, through YSCHMA, is striving to provide healthcare coverage to 200,000 registered individuals by managing financial payments.
He expressed worry about the high costs of medicines, which are causing concern among those registered with YSCHMA when they visit health facilities.
To address these challenges, Dr. Gana highlighted the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Health, YSCHMA, and UNICEF in reviewing the operational guidelines of the contributory agency to ensure its success.
Dr. Babagana Tijjani, who serves as the Executive Secretary of YSCHMA, shared that since the agency was established four years ago, over 200,000 individuals have become part of the healthcare scheme.
This shows how much the scheme has grown and the positive effects it has had on people’s access to healthcare services.
