Imo Police Arrest Two Suspects Over Viral Okigwe Assault Video

The Imo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with a viral video showing the alleged assault of a young woman and her brother at Okigwe.

The Command, in a statement issued by its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Okoye Henry, said it had taken note of the video circulating widely on social media, which reportedly showed the victims being assaulted while they were travelling to Abia State University.

The police clarified that the armed men seen in the video were not police officers, contrary to possible interpretations arising from the footage.

According to the Command, the men are personnel of the Imo State Vigilante Organization.

Police Arrest Two Suspects

The two suspects were identified as Ejiogu Nchekwube and Caleb Onyebuchi. The Command said they had been arrested and were being detained at the Okigwe Divisional Police Headquarters as investigations into the incident continued.

The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability and respect for the rights of members of the public.

Bosso assured that any individual found culpable in the incident would face appropriate action in accordance with the law.

The police commissioner’s position comes amid public concern generated by the video, which has attracted attention on social media and prompted calls for authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault.

The Command urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid circulating unverified information while the investigation is ongoing.

It also advised the public to rely on official channels for verified information concerning the case.

The police said further details would be made available as the investigation progresses.
