Immigration Warns Nigerians Against Traveling To Niger

.The Comptroller in charge of the Jibia Special Border Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mustapha Sani, delivered a strong cautionary message to Nigerian citizens against traveling to the neighboring Niger Republic while the current embargo is in effect. Speaking at a joint celebration with the Katsina State Command of the NIS to commemorate the service’s 60th anniversary on August 3, Mustapha Sani reiterated the NIS’s commitment to enforcing border control measures and curbing illegal movement from the Niger Republic.

As the situation called for increased vigilance, Sani announced that the NIS is actively deploying a contingent of well-trained personnel to man the Katsina border. Their primary objective is to maintain strict surveillance and prevent unauthorized crossings from the Niger Republic into Nigeria. This move comes as a proactive step to ensure the nation’s security and protect the interests of its citizens.

During his address, Sani emphasized the historical and cultural connections shared between Nigeria and the Niger Republic. Despite the ties, he firmly stated that it does not grant Nigerien citizens the right to enter Nigeria without valid travel documents. Highlighting the significance of upholding national laws and regulations, he warned that individuals attempting to enter Nigeria illegally would face consequences and be returned to their country of origin.

The border enforcement measures have been meticulously planned and strategically implemented. NIS officers have been stationed at key locations along the orthodox routes that some foreigners have been known to use for unauthorized entry. These officers are equipped and ready to conduct thorough stop-and-search operations as part of their routine duties.

Sani assured the Nigerian public that their safety and security are of paramount importance to the NIS. The border control efforts are aimed at safeguarding the country’s borders while upholding the principles of fairness and adherence to international laws and agreements. He also stressed that the current travel restrictions to Niger Republic are temporary and will be lifted as soon as the situation permits.
