Munich, Germany – Bayern Munich’s sporting director, Max Eberl, has expressed outrage and disbelief over Jamal Musiala’s omission from the prestigious Ballon d’Or shortlist.
The 20-year-old sensation was expected to be a top contender after a stellar season with Bayern and a phenomenal performance at the Euros.
“We’re very surprised, it’s just unbelievable,” Eberl told DPA.
“Jamal was one of the outstanding players at the Euros, voted into the best XI, and was one of the tournament’s top scorers. In addition, FC Bayern reached the semi-finals of the Champions League thanks to Jamal’s performances.”
Eberl emphasized that Musiala’s exclusion from the top 30 is “completely incomprehensible.“He praised the young star, saying, “Musiala is one of the most fascinating players in the international football scene, with exceptional, unique abilities. We are very proud of what he’s doing for FC Bayern and also for the national team.”
This snub has left Bayern officials and fans stunned, sparking a heated debate about the selection process and criteria for the coveted award.
Recall that yesterday, the 2024 Ballon d’Or nominees were unveiled and the 30-man list included Musiala’s teammate, Harry Kane.
Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman who helped Atalanta to win the Europa League, following his hat trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen, was named among the nominees.
Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbape and Manchester City’s Rodri, Erling Haaland are among the strong contenders to win the coveted award.
