I’m Hungry, My Children Don’t Check on Me — Elderly Woman Caught Stealing Farm Produce in Kaduna Breaks Down

A Kaduna farmer, Flow Ginger, has recounted the heartbreaking story of an elderly woman he caught allegedly stealing farm produce from his farm.

Ginger, who had been lamenting repeated thefts from his farm, said he finally caught one of the suspected thieves on Sunday.

According to him, the suspect, an elderly woman, had allegedly taken corn, groundnuts and yam from the farm, telling him she was driven to the act by hunger.

Ginger said the incident initially left him angry, but his anger quickly gave way to sympathy after hearing the woman’s story.

The woman reportedly told him that her children live in the city but rarely visit or check on her.

“I’m hungry. My children live in the city, but none of them visits or checks on me,” she reportedly said.

She added that whenever she borrows a phone to call her children, they often respond with promises but fail to follow through.

The farmer said the woman’s plight touched him deeply, turning what began as an encounter over alleged theft into a sobering reminder of the struggles faced by some elderly people living without adequate support from their families.
