Ijaw Leader, Senator Sekibo Slumps, dies

A former Senator and President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), Senator Tari Sekibo is dead. He died on Monday morning of November 18, 2013.

The Rivers Stateborn septuagenarian passed on after he was reported to have slumped and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre where he died before he could receive medical attention.

Senator Sekibo died in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, where he was supposed to hold a meeting with the members of the Ijaw National Congress, aimed at resolving the internal lingering crisis in the Congress.

The Okirikaborn leader was said to have visited the Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson earlier before accepting death’s call.

A staff at the Federal Medical Centre confirmed that the remains of the late Senator were conveyed to the hospital in a Bayelsa State Government ambulance .

The Publicity Secretary of the Ijaw National Congress, Pastor Victor Burubo, confirmed the death of their President. In a brief comment, the Publicity Secretary said: “We have just heard the news that we have lost our President: “We don’t have enough details but he died in Yenagoa, We are arranging to move to Yenagoa and get enough details on the sad incident.”

Senator Sekibor was 70 years, and until his death he was the President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), from Okirika in Rivers State Nigeria.
