IGP Deploys CP Shogunle to Oversee 2025 Anambra Governorship Election Security

CP Abayomi Shogunle has resumed duty as the Commissioner of Police to oversee security for the upcoming Anambra State Governorship Election scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra, Tochukwu Ikenga made the announcement on Tuesday in a statement made available to newsmen in Awka.

According to him, CP Shogunle’s deployment aligns with the strategic security plan approved by Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, aimed at ensuring a peaceful, credible, and transparent electoral process in Anambra State.

Ikenga revealed that upon taking office, CP Shogunle activated the IGP’s Enforcement Protocol targeting anti-electoral offenses such as ballot snatching, vote-buying, political thuggery, and voter intimidation.

He revealed that the CP has also strengthened the Electoral Offences Desk to monitor social media and tackle cyber-related election crimes swiftly.

“A central command framework was established to facilitate real-time intelligence sharing and rapid response.

“Over 60,000 security personnel from various agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) will secure 5,720 polling units, with tactical reserves deployed along local government boundaries and at collation centers.

“The Commissioner reiterated a total ban on vigilante and quasi-security groups, including Agunechemba, emphasizing that only federal government security agencies are authorized to provide election security.

“VIP movements with armed escorts at polling or collation centers are strictly prohibited; violators will face immediate arrest, withdrawal of escorts, and prosecution.

“Only designated INEC officials, accredited observers, and journalists will be permitted free movement in specified election areas.

“CP Shogunle called on political stakeholders, community leaders, and voters to support security agencies in maintaining peace before, during, and after the election.

“The Commissioner can be contacted at 0809-600-0079 for further information,” the statement from Ikenga said.
