If They Can Locate Influencers, Why Not Bandits?- Buratai Questions Failure to Track Bandits Flaunting Ransom Cash Online

Former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai (Rtd.), has questioned why security agencies appear unable to track down bandits and kidnappers despite routinely tracing ordinary citizens and social media influencers.

Speaking during an interview on TVC monitored by The News Chronicle, Buratai expressed concern over the growing audacity of criminal gangs, many of whom openly display ransom proceeds and details of their activities on social media without facing swift consequences.

Reacting to public frustration over the apparent impunity enjoyed by bandits, Buratai dismissed suggestions that the criminals are difficult to trace.

“I don’t think they fail to locate. If they can locate ordinary citizens or social media influencers, I don’t believe they cannot locate these bandits that flaunt their loots or their activities,” he said.

The former army chief stressed the need for enhanced capacity-building across security agencies, warning that bandits have evolved their tactics and become increasingly emboldened in carrying out attacks and showcasing the proceeds of their crimes.

According to him, strengthening intelligence gathering, surveillance, and operational capabilities is critical to effectively confronting the changing security threats facing the country.
