Former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye has criticized Nigerians who quickly forgot about their 2013 Africa Cup of Nations triumph, a victory in which the former West Bromwich striker believes is not talked about enough.
On his official X page, he wrote:
“Some of you guys know nothing about football. If not for Bet9ja, you wouldn’t even know which team Nigerian players play for. When I see some of our leaders today, I have tears in my eyes. Some of you don’t even remember the names of all the players who won AFCON 2013.”
Brown, 35, was a regular in the late Stephen Keshi’s team that beat Burkina Faso in the 2013 final to lift Nigeria’s third continental title.
He represented the Nigerian national team for six years, earning 26 caps and scoring six goals.
Ideye, who currently plays for the Kuwaiti side Al-Yarmouk, revealed how his wife started packing their luggage upon hearing about the mouth-watering salary offer from a Chinese club, even though he had no interest in going to China. His wife and then club, Olympiacos, couldn’t turn down the lucrative offer:
“I had no plans to go to China. Olympiacos received an offer from TEDA that they couldn’t refuse. My agent negotiated with TEDA about my salary and bonuses. When I saw the large numbers and told my wife, she packed my luggage for me to leave the next day, LOL…”
