IDPs abducted in Borno exceeded allowable distance, says DHQ

The Defence Headquarters talked about something that happened in Borno. They said 112 people who had to leave their homes, called Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), were taken by terrorists.

These IDPs went too far from where they were supposed to stay, and they didn’t tell the people in charge. They went to get wood, but they went too far.

The person in charge of giving information about the military, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, said soldiers got a message on March 3 from the person in charge of emergencies in Borno.

They heard that some IDPs might have been taken by terrorists in Gamboru Ngala area.

They found out that the IDPs left their place to get wood from somewhere secret. They didn’t tell anyone they were leaving, and they went too far.

At about 8:30 PM, when they didn’t come back, people got worried that something might have happened to them. That’s when soldiers found out.

Soldiers are supposed to know when IDPs go far from their place, but they didn’t know this time.

This made it harder to find the missing people. Soldiers are trying very hard to find them and bring them back.

Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba said they can’t talk too much about what they’re doing because it’s important to keep some things secret.

But they want everyone to know they are doing everything they can to bring the missing people back home safely. They are also getting help from other countries.

“I can further assure that getting these hostages back is very clearly on the top of our priorities.

“It is for this reason we have leveraged on our international partners for support,” he said.
