Nigeria’s former President Olusegun Obasanjo has warned that if adequate attention is not paid to the needs of the youths in Africa, it will be very ugly for everyone on the continent.
Obasanjo who was reacting to the recent protest in Kenya, said African youths have nothing to lose as many of them are jobless, not empowered and in poverty
He lamented further; ‘’If you have nothing to gain and you are jobless, unempowered, in poverty and you see your leaders, some of them in obscene affluence, What do you do? You are a human being and the resources of your country are provided for that country by God for the benefit of all the citizens of that country.”
The former president stated that what may happen in Africa if the needs of the youths are not addressed as soon as possible may be worse than the Arab Spring.
‘’It’s the beginning and if no adequate attention is paid to the needs of the youths in Africa, the autumn will turn to winter and it will be very ugly for all of us.”
