ICPC Tracks 64 Federal Projects Worth N21.6bn in Sokoto, Flags Irregularities

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has commenced the tracking of 64 executive and constituency projects valued at about N21.6 billion across Sokoto State.

The exercise is part of Phase 8 of the ICPC’s Constituency and Executive Projects Tracking Programme, currently ongoing in several states nationwide.

Speaking on Monday, the team leader, Mr. Aminu Bala, said the monitoring would cover projects in key sectors such as health, education, water supply, agriculture, electrification, and special interventions.

Bala disclosed that preliminary inspections revealed irregularities in some projects located in Kalambaina and Gwuiwa in Wamakko Local Government Area, as well as Mabera and Mana in Sokoto South LGA.

According to him, the affected projects failed to meet contract specifications and would require corrective action.

He noted that contractors handling the projects had been directed to return to site immediately and address the identified shortcomings.

The projects include a science laboratory at the Senior Secondary School in Kalambaina and water supply schemes in Gwuiwa, Mabera, and Mana.

Bala further explained that the 64 projects were awarded through 14 federal government agencies and were expected to have been fully executed.

He added that the tracking team comprises officials of the ICPC, representatives of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, civil society organisations, and the media.

He said the team would assess project performance, value of work done, contractor details, payment records, and overall project status, with the aim of determining the impact of the projects on the benefiting communities.
