ICPC Denies Arresting Justice Omotosho, Labels Viral Video ‘False and Malicious’

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has dismissed as false and malicious a viral social media video claiming it arrested Justice James Omotosho.

In a statement made available to The News Chronicle, the Commission’s spokesperson, J. Okor Odey, described the allegation as completely untrue and deliberately crafted to mislead the public.

The ICPC clarified that it has neither arrested nor invited Justice Omotosho for questioning, stressing that the judge is not under investigation as suggested in the circulating video.

The anti-corruption agency urged members of the public to disregard the misleading content, warning against the spread of unverified information capable of causing unnecessary public concern and damaging reputations.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the ICPC has no mandate to investigate serving judicial officers,” the Commission stated, adding that it holds Justice Omotosho and all judicial officers in Nigeria in high regard.

The Commission reiterated its commitment to professionalism and due process in carrying out its statutory mandate and advised the public to rely only on official ICPC communications for accurate information about its activities.

It also urged citizens to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of information circulating on social media before sharing it.
