Ibadan Gears Up as Falconets, Senegal Set for World Cup Qualifier

Ibadan is back on the international football map as Nigeria’s Falconets and Senegal’s Lionesses of Teranga arrive ahead of a decisive 2026 FIFA Under 20 Women’s World Cup qualifying clash.

The match is billed for Saturday February 7 2026 at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba.

Oyo State authorities confirmed that as last arrangements get more thorough, both sides are settling in. Having ably hosted a past Falconets qualifier, the state secured hosting rights, therefore strengthening its expanding profile as a dependable site for major sporting events.

Citing the stadium’s facilities, security, and logistics as major considerations behind the choice, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Wasilat Adegoke said arrangements were in great shape.

She remembered Nigeria’s emphatic victory over Rwanda at the same venue last year, noting that the event boosted confidence in Ibadan’s readiness to host another continental event.

With the state government offering complete logistical assistance throughout their stay, The News Chronicle understands that the Falconets arrived early to allow for proper acclimatisation and strategic preparation.

A victory for Nigeria would propel the Falconets into the final qualifying round, where they would battle the winner of the Guinea-Bissau-Malawi tie for one of four African tickets to the world event.

Poland will host the 2026 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup from September 5 to 27, therefore giving extra importance to Saturday’s confrontation in Ibadan.
