I will not attend the CAF award ceremony—Algeria FA President

The Algerian Football Association president, Walid Salid, has stated that Algerians, Riyad Marhez, and himself will not be attending the CAF Award ceremony night today following the exclusion of Riyad Marhez from the final three.

While speaking to the media, Walid said:

“I will not attend the CAF Awards ceremony. I have informed CAF of my decision, and, with the grace of God, no Algerian will be present at this event in solidarity with Riyad Mahrez and the Union Sportive de la Medina d’Alger.”

Riyad who made the provisional 10-man shortlist for the award this year, was dropped along with Frank Anguissa, Vincent Aboubakar, Sofyan Amrabat, Yassine Bounou, Youseff En-Nesyri, and Sadio Mané for the last three of Victor Osimhen, Mohamed Salah and Achraf Hakimi.

The award night is scheduled to be held tonight with some African legends like Jay Jay Okocha and Mikel Obi already in Morocco to grace the award.
