I Have Heard the Calls, I Will Consult Widely Before Any Decision— Jonathan Opens Up on 2027 Presidential Race

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has revealed that he will consult widely before deciding whether to contest the 2027 presidential election, following growing calls for his return to active politics.

Addressing journalists, Jonathan described the decision to seek Nigeria’s highest office as a weighty one that cannot be approached casually or treated like a computer game.

The former president said although many Nigerians, especially young people have urged him to run again, any decision on a political comeback would only come after extensive consultations.

He also challenged Nigerian youths to become more involved in the democratic process, stressing that many citizens demanding change are yet to fully participate in elections.

“Over 50% of Nigerians don’t have voter card but you are asking me to run for presidency,” Jonathan said.

According to him, he has continued to receive appeals and opinions from different parts of the country and would carefully engage stakeholders before taking a final position.

“I’ve heard from young people, and I’ll consult. I cannot just wake up and decide I want to be president of Nigeria again. Like I said, I’ll consult, and if there’s a need, I will,” he stated.

Jonathan further urged Nigerians to remain patriotic and actively participate in elections, maintaining that genuine democratic progress can only be achieved through full civic engagement and voter participation.
