Super Eagles assistant captain Wilfred Ndidi said he felt pity for the newly appointed Super Eagles coach, Finidi George, during his first assignment as an interim manager.

The Leicester defender, during an interview with Arise TV, said Finidi George was in charge of the team alone during their recent friendly games against Ghana and Mali in Morocco:

“But you know, when we played in the friendly games in Morocco against Ghana and Mali, I really felt bad for him because he was alone, and there was no assistant, no one to help him. He was basically conducting the training, doing the tactics, even during games and conducting the warm-up. I think, you know, we as a group saw him going through all this and still remaining confident with the team. It is amazing because, with a little help from other people coming in, I think he’s going to do well.”

The Leicester man congratulated Finidi George on his recent appointment, asserting that the former Enyimba head deserves it for being part of the team for a while:

“I would say congratulations to him because he’s been part of the team for months now, and I think him coming into that role as a manager is a big one for him.”

About a fortnight ago, the Nigeria Football Federation unveiled Finidi as the newly appointed Super Eagles head coach, whose first task is to secure decisive victories over South Africa and Benin Republic by next month.

In Group C of the World Cup qualifiers, Nigeria is sited in the third spot behind Rwanda and South Africa, having drawn both of their games. Nigeria will play South Africa on June 7 and Benin on June 10.
