Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Monday addressed protesters and activist VeryDarkMan over the abduction of children in Oriire Local Government Area, declaring his willingness to personally intervene for their release.
“I can sacrifice myself for the release of the abducted children; I am almost 60 years old,” Makinde told the crowd, in a video that circulated widely on social media.
The governor was responding to mounting pressure from protesters who stormed government premises demanding urgent action on the kidnappings.
Makinde said his administration is working with security agencies to secure the release of the children and restore safety in Oriire. He urged residents to remain calm and avoid actions that could jeopardize rescue operations.
The governor’s statement came amid public outrage over the abduction, with VeryDarkMan joining calls for swift intervention. Protesters have blocked roads and demanded accountability from authorities.
Security agencies have intensified operations in the area, while the governor assured families that the rescue of the children remains his top priority.
