A 27-year-old hunter, Garba Muhammed, has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, for allegedly administering a harmful drug to a minor.
Muhammed, a resident of Mararaba Karu, pleaded guilty to a charge of cruelty to a child.
The prosecutor, Samuel Okoro, told the court that the complainant, Muhammed Auwal, reported the incident at the Mararaba Police Station on June 14.
According to the prosecution, the defendant allegedly gave Auwal’s son, Umar, a harmful drug on June 6.
Okoro said the alleged offence contravenes Section 238 of the Penal Code and Section 31 of the Child Rights Act as applicable in Nasarawa State.
Chief Magistrate Joy Faruk granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with one surety in like amount.
She ruled that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide a reliable means of identification.
The case was adjourned until July 14 for hearing.
