How To Hide Whatsapp Channels On Android, iPhone

—

Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, has been introducing a slew of new features to the popular messaging app in recent times.

While many of these features enhance the overall user experience, one new addition, the WhatsApp Channels feature, has raised concerns among users. Some view it as a move that transforms WhatsApp into something resembling yet another social media platform.

The WhatsApp Channels feature allows users to follow their favorite celebrities and news portals, granting them access to the latest updates without needing to share their personal phone numbers. However, as of now, there’s no direct way to opt out of this feature, and Meta is actively rolling it out to both Android and iOS devices.

If you’re among those who find little utility in the WhatsApp Channels feature and prefer to keep your messaging app focused solely on communication, here’s a guide on how to hide this feature, making WhatsApp a less distracting platform.

1. Avoid Updating WhatsApp:

If you haven’t updated your WhatsApp yet, you can continue using an older version of the app that does not include the Channels feature. On Android devices, if you’ve already updated the app, you have the option to back up your chats, uninstall the newer version, and install the older one. Ensure that you source the APK from a legitimate and trusted source to maintain the security of your device.

2. Hiding Channels within the Updates Tab:

If you prefer not to revert to an older version of WhatsApp, you can employ a workaround to hide the Channels feature. It’s important to note that this method doesn’t remove the feature entirely but rather conceals it within the Updates tab on WhatsApp.

Open WhatsApp and navigate to the Updates tab.

Select “View Updates.”

This action will push the Channels section to the bottom of the page. If you have a sufficient number of status updates on WhatsApp, this should effectively hide the Channels feature from view. However, keep in mind that closing and reopening WhatsApp will reset this setting, and you’ll need to repeat the process each time you want to hide Channels.

By following these steps, you can regain control over your WhatsApp experience and keep it focused on personal communication rather than becoming a platform for following celebrities and news channels. While the Channels feature may have its merits for some users, it’s essential to have the option to customize your app to suit your preferences and priorities.
