How Manchester United Could Breach Financial Regulations

Manchester United could breach football financial regulations due to the club’s current situation.

After extending Erik ten Hag’s contract by 12 months just four months ago and then sacking him yesterday, Manchester United risks violating FIFA’s financial rules, as the club is set to pay the Dutch manager higher compensation than if they had waited until the end of the season.

Moreover, the pursuit of their top target, Sporting CP’s manager Ruben Amorim, whose contract runs until 2026, presents another financial challenge due to his hefty release clause.

It is understood that United would need to pay around £15 million ($19.5m) to part ways with Ten Hag, while Amorim’s release clause is valued at approximately €10 million (£8.3m/$10.8m).

Ruben Amorim, 39, who could be the youngest manager to coach the Red Devils, has not ruled out joining Manchester United, forfeiting Champions League football with Sporting CP to come to a club that is not currently participating in the European top-tier tournament.

In a question-and-answer session, the 39-year-old asserted that no decision has been made regarding the speculation linking him to Old Trafford and that if a decision is ever made, he will take responsibility for his actions as he always has:

“Nothing is decided yet… I don’t know if this is the farewell game or not. I have nothing more to say; we are analyzing the game, and anything I say will only create more noise. There is nothing concrete.

“I don’t want to fuel this issue. There is the club’s statement to the CMVM, and apart from that, we don’t know the details yet. We’ll see… I have always taken responsibility for my decisions, and I will be here to do so, but when I am sure of things, it will be easier.”

When pressed further about United speculation, he said, “Manchester United is interested. But it’s my choice.

“Until everything is decided, we won’t be making any noise. I have nothing useful to say.

“I will take on whatever I want to do, as I have always done.”

Amorim also refused to elaborate further on his contract with Sporting CP when asked:

“I’m not going to talk about my contract; that’s a matter between me and Sporting. All the clauses that exist in a contract are agreed upon by the employer and the employee.

“What I can say is that the statement contains all the necessary information.”

Why is the United deal not done?

“I can’t promise anything. What I know is that I will be at training tomorrow [on Wednesday], and I will prepare for the game against Estrela da Amadora.”
