How a ₦20m Move to the UK Ended in Deportation for a Nigerian Family of Five

A Nigerian family of five has reportedly been deported from the United Kingdom following a dispute that led to the discovery of irregularities in their immigration documents.

The family relocated from Nigeria to the UK after selling personal assets and raising about ₦20 million to fund the move. The individuals, allegedly named Tobore and his wife, Funke, traveled with three children.

Funke, who is a nurse, was listed as the main visa applicant, while her husband and the children were recorded as her dependents. After arriving in the UK, Funke reportedly secured employment first, while Tobore took on temporary warehouse jobs.

The situation changed after about one year in the country when a disagreement arose between the couple. Funke was said to have contacted the UK Home Office to request that her husband be removed from her visa.

Following this request, Tobore was reportedly informed by immigration authorities that he had a limited period to leave the UK. In response, he contacted the authorities and disclosed that one of the children included in the application was not biologically related to the couple and had not been legally adopted.

UK authorities subsequently invited Funke and the children for DNA testing. The results, according to the report, confirmed the claim.

Under UK immigration rules, providing false or incomplete information in visa applications can lead to enforcement action. The discovery of the discrepancy led to the deportation of the entire family to Nigeria.

The UK Home Office has not issued an official statement on the specific case. However, UK immigration regulations require accurate disclosure of family relationships, including legal adoption status, in all visa applications.

When told of the event, several commenters criticized the couple’s decisions, with some attributing the outcome to poor judgment.  A commenter stated, “UK government no dey send anybody papa o.”

Some reactions focused on how the situation escalated. One person noted, “They all became victims of anger,” while another advised, “Let’s be weighing the outcome of our actions even before we start [any] drama.”

There were also concerns about the effect on the children. One person said, “This whole chaotic situation will definitely rub off on the innocent child.”
