House of Reps to investigate MDAs for involvement in certificate racketeering

The House of Representatives decided to look into claims about Nigerian students working with some government officials with fake certificates.

This decision came after Rep. Abubakar Fulata (APC-Jigawa) brought up the issue during a meeting in Abuja.

During the meeting, Fulata talked about a situation involving a journalist named Umar Audu.

Audu pretended to be a student and investigated a business happening in Benin Republic.

He got a certificate and documents from a school called Ecole Superieure de Gestion et de Technologies (ESGT) in Cotonou, Benin Republic. He also joined the NYSC program within a month.

Fulata mentioned that the Ministry of Education usually checks certificates from outside the country before letting people join the NYSC program.

After discussing the issue, the House strongly disapproved of students and government officials working together to fake certificates.

They decided that the House’s Committee on University Education should look into the matter and find out who was involved.

Additionally, the committees were asked to find the government officials and others involved.

They were also tasked with identifying the students who benefited from these fake certificates and the campuses in Nigeria where this happened.
