House of Reps calls for rescue of 300 Borno residents, after largest abduction since Chibok

—

The House of Representatives, has asked all the different groups that protect the country to help rescue more than 300 people who were taken by terrorists.

These people, most of whom are women, were kidnapped in a place called Borno State. This happened just last week.

The women were captured by a group of people suspected to be part of an organization called Boko Haram. They were taken away when they were out in the forest of Gamboru Ngala, looking for firewood.

Zainab Gimba, who represents a particular area in Borno State in the House of Representatives, brought up this urgent issue during a meeting.

She talked about how worrying it is, comparing it to a similar situation back in 2014 when schoolgirls were taken from a town called Chibok.

She said, “I want to tell everyone in the House that around 300 women were taken while they were collecting firewood for their homes and to sell. This happened in the area I represent. I’m asking the people who protect us to act quickly and rescue these women who were just trying to earn a living.”

She also mentioned how this is the second biggest kidnapping incident after what happened in Chibok in 2014. Even now, some of those girls are still not free.

The Deputy Speaker of the House, Benjamin Kalu, who was leading the meeting, called it a very sad thing and asked the security forces to work harder to find and rescue the women who were taken.

“We, as a House, feel very sad for the families of the people who were taken. We hope and pray that these women, and also the ones who are still not free from their kidnappers, will be brought back safely. Tomorrow is International Women’s Day, and we think it’s important to remember these women and ask for their protection and release.”
