On April 24, 2024, the House Committee on Army, headed by Chairman Honorable Abdullahi Mamudu, conducted a visit to the Headquarters Joint Task Force (JTF) North East (NE) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) at Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri.
 The purpose of the visit was to oversee the activities of the JTF OPHK and gain insights into various aspects of their operations.
During the visit, Colonel MI Ibrahim provided a comprehensive briefing to the committee, covering topics such as an overview of OPHK, military kinetic operations, resettlement efforts for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), the surrender of terrorists, and the ongoing threat of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
 Additionally, Brigadier General AO Kazeem presented an overview of the projects undertaken by the 27 Support Engineers Regiment in Damaturu.
Chairman Honorable Abdullahi Mamudu expressed appreciation for the military’s efforts in safeguarding the country, acknowledging their crucial role in maintaining peace and security.
 He emphasized the National Assembly’s responsibility to allocate sufficient budgetary resources to enable the military to effectively carry out its constitutional duties.
 He also commended the sacrifices made by military personnel, particularly those who had lost their lives in service, and encouraged the military to embrace technological solutions to address security challenges.
In his welcome remarks, Theatre Commander Major General Waidi Shaibu expressed gratitude for the committee’s visit, highlighting the ongoing major operations being conducted across the theatre.
 He underscored the significance of the NE region in the fight against insurgency and terrorism, emphasizing OPHK’s commitment to restoring law and order in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy.
Major General Waidi outlined the recent successes of OPHK, including the neutralization of terrorists, recovery of equipment, and rescue missions.
He reaffirmed the theatre’s determination to bring an end to insurgency through revised strategies to tackle emerging security threats.
Key highlights of the event included a presentation of the quarter guard, a visit to the 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital where the committee members expressed condolences to wounded troops, a tour of the ongoing construction of the 7 Div Headquarters, an interactive session, presentation of mementos, signing of the visitor’s book, and group photographs to commemorate the visit.
