Heavy Stakes: 244 Councillors Bankroll Aliyu’s Re-Election Push

In a bold show of allegiance, the National Councillors’ Forum in Sokoto State has put its money where its mouth is, purchasing a N50 million All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination form for Governor Ahmad Aliyu ahead of the 2027 governorship race.

The News Chronicle reports that the cheque was formally handed over on Monday in Sokoto by the Forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Nura Umar-Goronyo, to the State APC Chairman, Alhaji Haruna Adiya.

Umar-Goronyo revealed that the move was a collective decision by 244 councillors across the state, aimed at throwing their weight behind the governor and reinforcing confidence in his administration.

“The effort is to contribute to his success in the coming election and further demonstrate Gov. Aliyu’s acceptance among citizens across the state,” Umar-Goronyo said.

Receiving the cheque, Adiya applauded the councillors for closing ranks in support of both the party and the governor, describing the gesture as a clear signal of loyalty and unity.

He pledged to deliver the cheque to Gov. Aliyu and urged him to remain steady at the helm by sustaining effective governance.

Adiya also rallied party faithful to line up behind President Bola Tinubu, Gov. Aliyu, and other APC candidates in future elections.

The event drew a cross-section of party stakeholders, including members of the state executive, local government officials, and councillors, all converging in a display of political solidarity.
