Health Worker Fatally Stabbed by Hoodlums in Niger

—

A 35-year-old health worker, Umar Mohammed, was tragically stabbed to death in the Gbeganu area of Minna, the capital of Niger State, on Friday.

Sources report that the deceased, who worked at a private clinic in Minna, was returning home after attending to a patient when he encountered a group of hoodlums engaged in a violent clash.

The fight had erupted among the hoodlums during a wedding reception in Gbeganu, resulting in multiple injuries.

Residents have expressed concern over the rising activities of hoodlums, which have disrupted the peace in various parts of Minna.

The affected areas include Kpakungu, Maitumbi, Fadikpe, Gbeganu, Soje, Ogbomosho, Unguwan-Daji, Limawa, Barikin-Sale, and Kwangila, among others.

SP Wasiu Abiodun, the Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Police Command, confirmed the incident.

He stated, “On May 17, 2024, at approximately 10:00 PM, a report was made at Kpakungu Division about a wedding ceremony in the Gbeganu area.

It was reported that some miscreants, reportedly led by one Ukasha and others, attacked a victim named Umar Mohammed with dangerous weapons.

The victim sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to General Hospital Minna, where he was later pronounced dead by the doctor.”

Abiodun also mentioned that two suspects had been arrested, and efforts were ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects who fled the scene.

This incident has heightened the community’s concerns about safety and the need for increased security measures to address the growing threat posed by hoodlums in Minna.
