“He was only sweet-talking a lady,” Akpabio denies ACP Udeme’s claims of #250k monthly pay from NDDC

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio has denied claims by an Assistant Commissioner of Police serving in Cross River State, that he was his Chief Detail and was paid N250, 000 every month.

The Police Officer, Stephen Udeme Brown had in a viral audio in which he was trying to woo and have an affair with a lady, Kate Agbor, claimed that the Niger-Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is still paying him salary till date even after Akpabio had left office.

According to him, the payment was because he was a Chief detail to Akpabio when he was governor of Akwa Ibom State.

In the audio, which has gone viral online, the lady was heard trying to stop the Police officer’s sexual advances at her and in the process, he started making the claims.

In a disclaimer issued on Monday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Minister, Anietie Ekong, said even while he served as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State between 2007 – 2015, Akpabio never had any Police detail in the Commissioner cadre attached to him.

“The attention of the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio has been drawn to a viral audio recording in the social media in which a man, Mr Stephen Udeme Brown, purporting to be an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) serving in Cross River State Command engages a lady in a discussion and tries to woo her to have an affair with him.

“In the course of the conversation, the man bragged to the woman that his wife who he claims is a Deputy Manager with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), earns about N30 million and that no decision is taken in NNPC without the wife. He also claims to be the Chief Detail to Senator Godswill Akpabio and is paid N250, 000 every month.

“As outlandish as these claims are, we wish to state categorically that Senator Akpabio does not have such Security Detail attached to him. Even while he served as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State (2007 – 2015), he never had any Police detail in the Commissioner cadre attached to him,” the disclaimer said.

It urged the general public to discountenance the claims as an obvious case of name-dropping.

“It is evident that the Officer may have made these whimsical boasts to impress the lady, boost his image and enhance his chances of having an affair with her. We wish to reiterate that the said Mr Stephen Udeme Brown is not attached to Senator Akpabio as a Security Detail,” Ekong restated.
