Africa Democratic Congress, ADC Chieftain, Kenneth Okonkwo, has launched a blistering attack on the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress NDC, Peter Obi, describing him as classless and accusing him of lacking the leadership qualities required to govern Nigeria.
Reacting to Obi’s recent appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Okonkwo said the former Anambra State governor delivered what he described as an embarrassing performance that fell far short of the standard expected of a presidential hopeful.
“Peter Obi is a classless politician. He does not understand the basic principles of leadership and public communication,” Okonkwo said.
He argued that Obi’s interview exposed what he called poor preparation and weak political judgment.
“That was one of the most uninspiring, unassertive and embarrassing interviews I have ever watched from someone seeking to lead a country as complex as Nigeria.”
Okonkwo further accused Obi of making elementary mistakes during the interview and failing to project confidence on issues of national importance.
“He was making schoolboyish errors. Instead of inspiring confidence, he left many Nigerians wondering whether he truly understands the weight of the office he seeks.”
The actor-turned-politician also dismissed Obi’s style of politics, insisting that charisma, courage and decisiveness are essential qualities for anyone aspiring to become Nigeria’s president.
The latest criticism further deepens the rift between the two former allies, whose relationship has steadily deteriorated since the 2023 general election. Okonkwo has, in recent months, repeatedly faulted Obi’s political strategy and leadership approach.
The News Chronicle recalled that Peter Obi, who earlier appeared on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, defended his record and criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration over the economy, insecurity and governance while outlining his vision for Nigeria ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
