Hanks Anuku, a veteran Nollywood actor, has addressed rumors about his mental health and drug use, explaining that they are untrue and that he lost many jobs because of them.
In an interview with media personality Lucky Udu, Anuku clarified the viral videos from 2023 that showed him appearing disoriented on the streets. He explained that he was practicing for a role as a madman.

Anuku said, “I was trying to get into character for a role as someone not in their right mind. I did this in the neighborhood to portray it as the director wanted. I was meditating and focusing on my script, unaware I was being recorded.”
He emphasized that the rumors about his insanity and drug use are false. “People have said a lot of things, but rumors are just rumors. They claimed I was sick and on drugs, but I was not. Maybe I looked depressed, which can happen, but I was never on drugs. I’m not a madman. I’m very sane and healthy. I exercise a lot and practice martial arts and sports,” Anuku stated.
