Hackers Take Over Court Recordings Database In Australia

A significant breach in the court recordings database of Victoria state, Australia, has been reported, resulting in disruptions to the audio-visual technology utilized within courtrooms.

The breach, occurring between November 1 and December 21, 2023, potentially compromised recordings of court hearings, with the possibility of earlier sessions being affected as well.

Confirmation of this breach came from Louise Anderson, the CEO of Court Services Victoria.

Anderson assured that the breach was contained within the recording network, without any unauthorized access to other critical court systems or sensitive data, such as employee or financial records.

In response to the breach, immediate measures were taken to isolate the affected network.

Although the disrupted system was disabled, proceedings for January were anticipated to continue.

Collaboration with cybersecurity experts was swiftly initiated to rectify the situation and bolster network security against further threats.

This incident is part of a concerning trend in Australia’s cybersecurity landscape.

A government report released in November 2023 highlighted an alarming frequency of cyberattacks targeting the country’s critical infrastructure, businesses, and residential networks, occurring at an estimated rate of one attack every six minutes.
