Gusau Clarifies Chelle’s Exit Rumours After Playoff Drama

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Ibrahim Gusau, has addressed speculation surrounding Coach Chelle’s departure following the recently concluded playoff tournament, insisting that there has been no official communication confirming her exit.

Speaking after the event, Gusau expressed confidence in the technical team, noting that the NFF remains focused on long-term development rather than quick changes.

He stated that the federation has yet to receive any resignation or formal notice from the coach, contrary to claims circulating on social media and some sports blogs.

The News Chronicle learned that internal discussions have taken place within the NFF regarding the team’s performance and future plans.

Sources familiar with the matter revealed that while certain board members had expressed concerns over tactical issues during the playoffs, no consensus was reached on any managerial change.

Chelle, who guided her team through a tense playoff series, has been praised for her work ethic and tactical discipline, despite narrowly missing out on qualification. Her calm leadership reportedly earned the respect of both players and staff, fueling hopes of continuity in her position.

However, reports emerged shortly after the playoffs suggesting that Chelle was planning to step down, citing fatigue and management interference. Gusau, in response, described the rumours as premature and lacking substance.

He maintained that any decision regarding the coaching role would follow due process, emphasizing the NFF’s commitment to stability and accountability.

The federation, according to Gusau, is currently reviewing the team’s overall performance and exploring strategies to strengthen both coaching and player development ahead of the next competitive cycle.

He assured fans that the NFF remains dedicated to building a solid football structure that rewards consistency and discipline while dismissing the notion of abrupt managerial changes based on short-term outcomes.

For now, all eyes remain on Chelle and the NFF boardroom, as the football community awaits clarity on her next move and the federation’s broader technical direction.
