Gunmen Waylay School Bus, Abduct Pupils, Teachers In Ekiti

Reports reaching The News Chronicle indicate that armed gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted pupils and teachers of a private nursery school in Emure, headquarters of Emure Local Government Area of Ekiti State. 

 

It was gathered that the abductors waylaid the school bus carrying the pupils and the teachers around the hour of 5pm on Monday, January 29 2024, along Eporo-Ekiti, in the Emure area of the state.

 

According to sources, six of the pupils, three teachers and the bus driver were whisked away by the gunmen with their whereabouts yet to be disclosed.

 

It was reported that the victims were kidnapped in Eporo Ekiti, at a location that shares a boundary with Ondo state.

 

The ugly incident occurred hours after some gunmen killed two traditional rulers in Oke-Ako axis of Ikole Local Government Area of the state.

 

A statement by the Ondo state governor, Biodun Oyebanji has charged citizens of the state not to despair over the abduction of some school pupils and their teachers in Emure- Ekiti.

 

Oyebanji assured government is making frantic efforts to secure the safe release those abducted in the incident.

 

The Governor, who described the kidnapping of the school pupils, as callous and unacceptable, stated that the government will do all it can to ensure the safe return of the children and their teachers.

 

In a statement, Special Adviser to the governor on Media, Yinka Oyebode on Tuesday 30 January said that security operatives in the state have already swung into action to trail the abductors with a resolve to bring the pupils and their teachers back to their families unhurt.
