Gunmen Kill Pastor, Kidnap Worshippers in Ekiti Church Attack

—

Gunmen have struck a Christ Apostolic Church in Eda Oniyo-Ekiti, leaving a pastor dead and several worshippers abducted, as security operatives intensify efforts to track down the attackers.

The Ekiti State Police Command confirmed the incident on Wednesday, revealing that a coordinated search operation is underway to apprehend those responsible.

According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Sunday Abutu, the assault occurred late Tuesday night around 10:30 p.m. while congregants were engaged in a night vigil on the outskirts of the community.

Initial findings indicate that about five armed assailants stormed the prayer ground, shot the pastor dead, and forcefully took away some members of the church.

Abutu stated that a full-scale investigation has been launched, along with a manhunt to bring the perpetrators to justice.

He further disclosed that security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Amotekun Corps, Agro Marshals, local vigilantes, and hunters, have begun intensive bush-combing operations in a bid to rescue the abducted victims.

While urging residents to remain calm, the police assured that proactive steps are being taken to forestall a repeat of such an attack.

The spokesperson also reminded religious leaders to adhere strictly to the state government’s directive mandating prior notification to security agencies before organising late-night gatherings.

He urged the public to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious activity or individuals to the authorities.

For emergencies, residents were advised to contact the police through the dedicated line: 08062335577.
